Let's talk!

You can use the following photo's to talk with your child about what is happening in kindergarten.

Foundations is fun! This work helps children with the next step of making books.

We are using books from our classroom library as a model for children to write their own books!  Donald Crews and many other authors and illustrators draw pictures, write labels, and write sentences to teach people about what they know. Donald does it, we do it when we make a class book for each other, and now kids are doing it!  The top book in this photo is about chocolate!  We are using patterned duct tape to bind our books.  So if your child ask for "duck tape", you'll know why! :)

We read this book and each child created their own name plate.

Here is a huge rocket! I got to wittiness 3 students counting all the polydrons they used to build this rocket. They were counting by 1's, 2's, and 3's!

Theses photos show one lesson of ordering # from least to greatest and matching quantity with numerals.  In addition, you can talk about our number corner.  You can see one of my favorite questions to ask children....." How do you know?"  When they answer that question.... They are justifying their thinking which can lead to great conversations and generalization!

Next week you will see a beautiful gift come home!  Children will share their All Aboy Me book and mini-me with you!  Something to look forward to!
